She and her brother were on a trip in Tucumán, a northwestern province in Argentina. Initially, they thought it was an abandoned cat who had passed away while giving birth. Unfortunately, the female kitten was too weak and tragically did not survive, but the male sibling named Tito went home with Florencia and managed to thrive there. However, when she took him in for a routine vet visit two months later, she was in for a big surprise.
A unique and surprising discovery was made during Tito’s veterinary examination – he wasn’t an ordinary house cat. Even Florence, who had been taking care of Tito, was amazed because he acted just like a regular kitten. Despite the veterinarian’s knowledge that Tito wasn’t a house cat, they couldn’t identify what he was. Hoping for assistance, they gave Florence the number of the Horco Molle nature reserve.
Rewritten: The mystery was finally solved after employees from the Farra Fundacion Argentina de Rescate Animal identified Tito as a jaguarundi – a small wild cat native to North and South America, ranging from Arizona all the way down to Argentina where he was found. While they may be similar in size to regular cats, jaguarundis are not domesticated and should not be kept as pets.

They are hopeful that they can rehabilitate him and return him to his natural habitat. Thankfully, Tito was well cared for during his time with Florence. However, exotic animals are not meant to be kept as pets, even accidentally. As cats and other wild animals grow older, they require special care, housing, and food that humans cannot provide. Even professionals cannot recreate a wild animal’s natural habitat. Their job is to rehabilitate and prepare these animals for a life outdoors. In addition to this, they can pose serious health and safety risks to their owners.

She is especially happy that he is now receiving proper care and will soon join his own species back in the wild.
