Airports can be overwhelming and intimidating for many people. Besides the usual anxieties associated with traveling, there are long lines, heightened security measures, and overpriced, subpar food options.
As Douglas Adams once said, it’s interesting to note that there isn’t a phrase like ‘As pretty as an airport’ in any language on Earth. However, picture this scenario – you’ve just lost your beloved pet dog. That was the exact state of one traveller until Cora the Corgi appeared. Cora is in training to be a therapy dog and possesses a unique ability to empathize with others’ pain.
According to Madison Palm, Cora, her pet dog, strolled around our small seating zone and greeted everyone who passed by or sat near us. Cora was resting, so I released her leash for a while as I unwound and snacked. That’s when she woke up and quietly approached him. She was already receiving affection from him at his feet before I could even call her back.
When I inquired whether the man was being disturbed by Cora, he responded with a gloomy expression and teary eyes, stating that she wasn’t causing any trouble. He had lost his dog the night before. However, he still managed to show affection towards Cora by petting her and complimenting her adorable appearance. The man even took out his phone to take a picture of Cora, who obediently posed for him. Cora has a special talent for finding individuals who require the comfort of a furry companion, despite her own traumatic past.
When Cora was just eight years old, she was saved from a backyard breeder who had been using her to breed puppies for sale. The demand for Corgis is high, making them an appealing breed for breeders to exploit. Despite having already given birth to 15 litters, with the last one only producing a single healthy pup, her previous owners no longer had any use for her and Cora found herself in foster care with Madison Palm. However, Madison grew so attached to Cora during her time as a foster parent that she eventually decided to adopt her permanently.
Madison expresses admiration for Cora’s wonderful personality, describing her as a loving companion who always stays by her side and watches over her. Even if Madison is occupied, Cora will seek out another lap to sit on and nudges whoever is there until she receives affection. Cora’s endearing traits are commonly mentioned by others, and her gentle disposition is impossible to overlook.
Her ability to identify those who are in pain and those who require her presence has always impressed me. Without a doubt, I have never doubted her intuition. Every day, I am amazed by her. It’s extraordinary that a dog who was neglected for seven and a half years can be so capable of showing and giving affection.
