Sophie immediately felt a bond with Izzy, a stunning ginger and white cat who had lost her sight due to a car accident while residing on the streets of Bosnia, after discovering a Facebook post from World Animal Friends. The blind feline appeared vulnerable and fragile, and Sophie couldn’t help but feel a sense of empathy towards her.
The adorable cat named Izzy suffered a tragic incident that left her heavily pregnant and injured. At just over a year old, she was hit by a car, causing her to lose her right eye completely and her left eye’s vision due to a detached retina. Unfortunately, all of her unborn kittens did not survive as well. Along with the severe eye injuries, Izzy also experienced a broken jaw and tail. During her surgery, she went into respiratory arrest, making her situation even more dire. Despite all of these obstacles, Izzy has proven to be a fighter at such a young age.
Sophie was not discouraged by the extensive trauma that Izzy had suffered and instead felt drawn to her. Having adopted a blind and deaf cat named Puzzle in the past, she knew firsthand how resilient animals with special needs could be. Although Sophie was hesitant to adopt another pet after losing Puzzle in 2018, she completed the adoption application when she learned about Izzy in 2019. To her surprise and delight, her application was approved, but she had to wait several months before Izzy could travel from Bosnia to her home in Manchester, England. Izzy eventually arrived on December 15, 2019, after a three-day journey in a van with other adopted cats and dogs. She immediately showed her appetite by devouring three full bowls of food and then settled down for a long sleep. Sophie slept in the same room as Izzy and woke up to find the new addition nuzzled into her — it was love at first sight!
Izzy, a ginger and white cat, may be blind, but that doesn’t stop her from navigating her forever home with ease. Her special connection with her owners, Sophie and her husband, is as strong as ever, and Izzy has become a huge comfort to them both. Despite dealing with the challenges of entropion, which causes her lower eyelids to turn inwards and rub against her remaining eye, Izzy lives a relatively normal and pain-free life thanks to regular injections and daily eye drops. In fact, Sophie calls her “Therapy Cat” because of how she helps ground her husband during panic attacks and comforts them both when they’re upset. Overall, Izzy proves that blind cats are not that different from their sighted counterparts and can bring just as much joy and comfort to their owners.
Sophie had initial doubts about adopting another cat, but when she saw Izzy’s face in 2019, she couldn’t resist making this gorgeous feline a part of her family. Although Sophie’s previous special needs cat, Puzzle, had passed away in 2018, she discovered that blind cats like Izzy are perfectly capable of leading joyful and satisfying lives with a little bit of patience.
According to Sophie, blind cats can actually be amazing pets and even superheroes in the feline world. It’s unfair to assume that they are difficult to take care of and overlook them as potential companions. Just ask Izzy the blind cat on Instagram!
Sophie has come to realize that taking care of blind cats is not as difficult as one might expect. On the contrary, it can be an immensely fulfilling experience. When she first laid eyes on Izzy’s photo, the poor cat was in terrible shape. But with the help of Rusmira, who rescued her from the streets of Bosnia and the folks at World Animal Friends, and Sophie and her family, Izzy is now flourishing beautifully. The journey has been nothing short of rewarding.
According to Sophie, who shared a photo of her on Instagram, Izzy is a very positive and empathetic dog. Despite the hardships she has faced, she remains optimistic and understands human emotions. To Sophie, Izzy holds great importance in her life.
