Although it may seem unfortunate, our furry companions are only with us for a limited amount of time. However, we are their whole world throughout their lives. During their final moments, it is our responsibility to stay by their side, assuring them that they were more than just pets to us; they were cherished members of our family.
Saying goodbye to an aging dog can be a heartbreaking experience that not everyone can handle. Unfortunately, this is one of the reasons why some elderly or terminally ill pets end up being abandoned or worse – euthanized. On January 6th of last year, Bella, a German cowgirl dog, suffered a tragic fate near Long Lane in Farndon, near Newark. She was left there by her former owners, with her leash tied to a heavy stone submerged in the river Trent, causing her to drown.
Bella, who was 10 years old at the time, was cruelly left tied to a rock in the deep water for several hours, leading to her untimely demise. However, there is a glimmer of hope in this otherwise saddening story. Bella’s tragic fate caught the attention of caring individuals who were determined to bring justice and find her a loving home.
Thanks to the efforts of these kind-hearted people, Bella’s story did not end in tragedy. She was rescued, given the care she needed, and eventually found a new, loving family to call her own. This serves as a reminder that even in the face of cruelty and abandonment, there are compassionate individuals willing to make a difference in the lives of innocent animals.
Before she had the fortunate encounter with two stray dogs, Jane Harper and her companion Joanne Bellamy, she faced numerous challenges just to stay alive. Exhausted and restrained by a rock in freezing waters, the German Cowgirl persevered for hours.
However, all her hardships were soon rewarded when she received the warmth and affection of a new, caring family. They embraced her with open arms, providing her with a safe and loving home.

Maggie, unquestionably one of Bella’s new owners, shared her side of the story with the media. Maggie stated, “As a family, we have had three cowgirl-themed children over the past 30 years, and we truly adored them. We sadly lost our beloved rescue dogs Tia/Luna on two separate occasions, and more recently, my son’s dog Honey. We genuinely missed them.”
