At the Baptist Health Corbin located in Kentucky, James Wathen, a patient who is terminally ill and 73 years old, has been experiencing a decline in his physical health and mental capacity with no signs of improvement. Despite this, the nurses at this healthcare facility have gone beyond their responsibilities to arrange a reunion between Wathen and his one-eyed Chihuahua named Bubba, whom he adores. The visit from his beloved pet came at a critical point when Wathen was on the verge of passing away.
Deanna Myers, the Director of Knox Whitley Animal Shelter, shared on social media that a heartwarming incident occurred when young James met Bubba. The little boy was moved to tears and Bubba, being the kind-hearted animal that he is, comforted James in his own special way. Such events prove that animals are not just pets – they hold a special place in our hearts as cherished members of our families.
Following Wathen’s hospitalization, the nursing staff tracked down Bubba to the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter and discovered that he had been placed with a foster family. Bubba had been exhibiting emotional distress since his owner had abandoned him. The nurses were able to reunite Wathen with his beloved dog on a Saturday, October 11th. Wathen was overjoyed and emotional as he spent time petting and playing with his furry friend.
Upon receiving Bubba, James couldn’t help but shed a few tears. However, his emotions quickly shifted as Bubba wrapped him in a loving embrace. This heartwarming moment reinforces the idea that animals are more than just pets – they are cherished family members. Deanna Myers, the director of Knox Whitley Animal Shelter, shared this touching story on Facebook. After spending some quality time with his furry companion, Wathen felt comforted and at ease.
During his stay, it appears that Wathen has made a complete recovery. The nurses noted that the patient showed significant improvement the following day by being able to eat and sit up, which he couldn’t do before. Baptist Health Corbin is making every effort to ensure that Wathen can regularly reunite with his beloved pet Bubba, as it has proved to be beneficial for his well-being. Check out the video below!
