During a recent bachelor party in Minnesota, my group of friends encountered an unexpected issue. As we were canoeing down the Minnesota River near Carver, we suddenly heard a yelp that caused us to pause and investigate. Mitch White and I were among those on the trip, and we were determined to find out what was causing the commotion.
To their amazement, they stumbled upon a St. Bernard that was firmly stuck in mud only a short distance from the water. The canine was submerged up until its collar. At that moment, they were perplexed about what action to take. White jokingly mentioned that his fiancée Kelly would probably not agree to marry him if they abandoned the dog.
With their oars in hand, they dug tirelessly for about half an hour to rescue the stranded dog. According to White, the dog was too weak to move, so they provided him with food and water. They eventually contacted emergency services, who aided in reuniting the dog, known as Ed, with his owner George Niskanen.
Niskanen shared that Ed had a habit of wandering off at times, but would eventually come back. However, he was informed by the Carver County Sheriffs Office that Ed had gone missing for a whole day and they needed his assistance regarding the situation with his dear pet. Niskanen expressed gratitude towards the Carver County Sheriffs Department and Carver Fire Department for their aid in bringing Ed up the hill. He was pleased to see Ed happy and back to his usual self. Niskanen also believed that all individuals who attended the bachelor party should be acknowledged for their contributions.
Niskanen expressed his desire to learn the identities of those who helped Ed, as he wants to express his gratitude through a personal card. As per Niskanen, when Ed first got home, he struggled to walk but now he’s recuperating well and is slowly regaining his energy, consuming food and liquids.
